CALU Pilots simSchool in Student Teaching and Special Education

The research team at California University of Pennsylvania, a Level 2 partner, is piloting the simSchool modules this semester in two different classes-student teaching and a special education course on assessing and positive behavior support. Since last summer, the team has collaborated in the following ways:
  • Holding monthly meetings to experiment with the lessons in the teacher’s manual and the new materials as they became available.
  • Keeping feedback notes relative to how simSchool might fit with undergraduate teacher preparation courses.
  • Participating in webinars to help plan and implement the piloting phase for this semester.
The team is excited to find out how to use simSchool to increase the interactions that teacher candidates have with diverse populations. Additionally, California University of PA researchers are interested in exploring ways to use simSchool in an “anchored instruction” approach so that all students in the teacher education program at the university will have common experiences from which to build knowledge and pedagogy.
